LEGO Train - Duplo Legoville Deluxe Train Set (5609)
LEGO Duplo Legoville Deluxe Train Set - An impressive deluxe cargo train set with everything a young train driver needs. Your toddler can load and unload the train's cargo wagons at the warehouse using the cool conveyor belt or using the big loading crane.
Lego Train SetThis Lego train set is wonderful! My 4 year old loves trains, and this is his new favorite. What is really neat about this train, is that if it gets derailed or hits anything, it stops and turns itself off and doesn't keep running like all of the other trains we have. Way to go Lego! He is having a blast building track and changing the pieces around. A wonderful new toy! Even my 18 month old can put the track together, not the case with other sets.Source: Amazon.com LEGO Duplo Legoville Deluxe Train Set Review |

Lego on WikipediaLego pieces of all varieties are a part of a universal system. Despite variation in the design and purpose of individual pieces over the years, each remains compatible in some way with existing pieces. Lego bricks from 1958 still interlock with those made in 2010, and Lego sets for young children are compatible with those made for teenagers...Source:Wikipedia.orgLEGO Duplo Legoville Deluxe Train Set Lego pieces - Design , History, Manufacture |

Toddler fun but needs supervision
By Jesse Mathers
My daughter received this train set for Christmas. We hoped it would help keep Daddy's lego train safer. It absolutely keeps her interest (she's just turned 3) and even our infant (8 months) is entranced by watching the train.
Benefits-
The train is EASY to use. The simple push button stop and start is a cinch for her. If she stands in front of the train and it hits her foot it stops and turns off as well. If you pick it up, the wheels stop too- so we've not had any hair tangling issues (hooray!)
The duplo bricks are easy to assemble -- even for her, her buildings may not look like the pictures, but she has fun- so that is what matters.
Mixed Feelings--
The tracks are easy to put together piece by piece-- but they also come apart really easily as well. A big issue on the carpet, but less of one on wood floors. I think if you have a lego table, you can fix them down on there which would solve the issue entirely.
The track set-up(s) you can assemble with the pieces in the box is great- but my kids destroyed the box and just start attaching pieces somewhat haphazardly-- it still works, but doesn't make a loop. On that note, the train will happily run right off the end of a track piece and KEEP GOING until it hits something or 2 minutes pass. This leads to a lot of giggling at my house- but may not be your idea of fun.
Negatives--
The train has some built in safety mechanisms- it stops when you pick it up and shuts off after 2 minutes of running until you re-press the button. HOWEVER! My 3 year old did figure out how to hurt herself with it. She likes to run the train across the floor, the table, etc and decided to run it on her arm. The train wheels started turning and pulled in a piece of her skin- she was left with a small bruise from the pinch. (Dumb me in trying to figure out how the train "bit" her, did the same thing to myself too- it HURTS!)
Train time is now more supervised so we don't have that happen again- but you may want to be aware and watch for similar behaviors in your little ones.

1st Duplo Set
By Tammy
My son who is almost 4 loves trains. He has over 200 different Thomas trains with every track tunnel or bridge you could imagine. I thought if anything was going to get him interested in legos it would be a train set. He received this for Christmas and has enjoyed it so much. I think it has really helped with his manual dexterity. I had hoped using his hands to put the pieces together whould help him now that he is trying to learn to write. It holds his attention well and you can either push the train and truck or turn the train on and let it go by itself. You can even pretend to fill the train with diesal oil and it makes a gurgling noise.
Very well built toy.

Expensive but good
By Tony
It's expensive, but my kids really do love this lego set. We've combined it with some other Lego duplo sets (e.g. a Thomas set), which makes it even more fun. They love having the train run on its on (unlike the Thomas sets, which have to be pushed), and "filling it up". I like how Lego makes everything fit; for example, the truck's wheels also fit on the track (so the train can push the truck around the tracks). It's also easy to put Thomas the Train's body on the front part of this set's electric train engine, and make "Electro-Thomas"
